Our first day in New England we headed west, driving out of Maine, across New Hampshire and into Vermont. We saw absolutely beautiful leaves-- all the colors and shades of fall- red, orange, yellow, gold, bronze, with a background of evergreens. The weather was cool and cloudy and rainy at times. We stopped by the Cabot cheese store in Stowe and picked up cheese and crackers for picnics, and then headed to a huge arts and crafts show. After that was our favorite drive up the steep and winding roads of Smugglers Notch. It was a very long day but wonderfully perfect.
